Bowling Green Race Report:
Early
Saturday morning, "00" Joe & I left for the NMCA Race at Bowling Green.
We
arrived
at 8 a.m. and found a Huge Crowd at this race. We parked on the oval
track and prepared for time trials. On Friday night, the track had
gotten a lot of rain, forcing a late start on Saturday. I only got one
time run with the Wag'n at 9.81; I had put a New transmission and converter
in and was happy with the 1.37 60' Time. After a long stretch of down
time, race officials gave us two qualifying passes on Saturday. I
moved the wagon to the 10.00 Index. The first pass, I
went 9.90. On te Second pass, just past the 1/8th mile cone, the EVAC
Tube broke off the carb mount and shorted out the ignition system. The
car only went 10.58. This make me the #16 qualifier in a 23 car field.
Joe's Dodge ran poorly Saturday and was only able to muster a 10.59.
He changed to a new Max Wedge Intake which slowed his car down. Sunday
morning, we put on the old manifold and he went 10.40 and his opponent had a
Red Light. "00" Joe lost in the 3rd round to the Runner Up of the
event. I got beat in the 1st Round when I bent 9.97 on my 10.00 Index.
Skip Koester won the event in his Ford Thunderbolt, Congrats Skip! I'm
looking forward to the Columbus Chrysler Classic event in 2 Weeks!
See you there,
Doug
